Thinking Globally About Community-Based Arts In Health: Mike White reports
In June, the Centre for Medical Humanities, at Durham University UK, convened a 'critical mass' meeting of its international partners in community-based arts in health.
Twenty-five leading practitioners and researchers in this field gathered from various parts of the globe to reflect on shared issues in applying arts practice to healthcare and medicine and exploring how meaningful international research collaborations can be developed that also involve local communities. The event was supported by Wellcome Trust and Arts Council England.
After a program of focussed discussion in Durham, consultative forums with North of England organisations delivering arts in health work were held, concluding at Manchester Metropolitan University. Attending from Australia were David Doyle (DADAA WA), Peter Wright (Murdoch University) and Margret Meagher (Arts and Health Australia).
